Sumario: | Since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the U.S. is experiencing a resurgence in patriotism, which is most evident in the nation's schools. President George W. Bush's administration launched a series of initiatives in October 2001 aimed at reviving patriotism among the country's 52 million schoolchildren. Since the 1980s, a number of schools have gradually begun to adopt textbooks and develop curriculums that cover the needs of a multiethnic, polyglot population that lives in an increasingly mutually connected world—and now is not the time to reverse this trend of multiplicity and revert to form in terms of substance and systematic memorization over democratic participation. |
