Zusammenfassung:Violent extremist groups are increasingly becoming transnational, deeply networked, and seem to defy geopolitical and legal boundaries. This portends a great danger for national and international forces that sesk to counter them. This chapter examines the linkage between violent extremist groups in the Sahel region, Lake Chad Basin and North African states and argues that the transformation of the world into a global village through the use of internet may well explain the escalation of violent extremism in the Sahel region. The chapter relies on secondary data and adopted the Social Movement Theory as a framework of analysis. It revealed that, the strategic location of the Sahel corridor and its vast ungoverned spaces has provided a "centre of gravity" for violent extremist groups to operate imchallenged, and therefore, suggests thar since the Counter-Terrorism approach of using military approaches for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) the Sahel has not yielded the desired result, governments and international partners should shit ground. ba following non-coercive CVE means, that are targeted at countering violent extremist recruitment and ideology.
