Die Studie untersucht längsschnittlich Elternstress und feinfühlig-herausforderndes Elternverhalten als Mediatorvariablen für den Zusammenhang zwischen Emotionsregulation von Eltern und späterer psychischer Gesundheit von der frühen Kindheit bis zum Grundschulalter. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass maladaptive Emotionsregulationsstrategien der Eltern längsschnittlich die spätere psychische Gesundheit von Kindern negativ beeinflusst und dies durch erlebten Elternstress statistisch mediiert wird. Für adaptive Emotionsregulation zeigte sich zusätzlich eine Mediation über feinfühlig-herausforderndes Elternverhalten und eine moderierte Mediation durch Elternstress. Die Ergebnisse unterstreichen die Relevanz elterlicher maladaptiver Emotionsregulation als Risikofaktor und von adaptiver Emotionsregulation als promotivem Faktor für die Entwicklung psychischer Gesundheit von Kindern. Elternstress und elterliche feinfühlige Herausforderung bei der Unterstützung der Autonomie des Kindes erklären innerfamiliäre Entwicklungsprozesse. Die Relevanz für Intervention und familienrechtliche Begutachtung wird diskutiert. | ||

However, only few longitudinal studies examine mediating processes explaining intrafamilial transmission. The current study examines parenting stress and sensitive challenging parenting as mediators between parental emotion regulation and children’s mental health in a longitudinal study from infancy to middle childhood. The results show a negative longitudinal effect of maladaptive parental emotion regulation on subsequent children‘s mental health problems mediated by parenting stress. For adaptive emotion regulation, sensitive challenging parenting additionally was a mediator moderated by parenting stress. Results emphasize the importance of parental maladaptive emotion regulation as a risk factor and of adaptive emotion regulation as a promotive factor for the development of children’s mental health. Parenting stress and low parental sensitivity when supporting children’s autonomy may explain developmental processes within families. The relevance for intervention and psychological judicial expert reports is discussed. | ||
