Sumario: | This book provides a global perspective on police adaptations to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Based on the surveys of police administrators, police officers, and citizens, the book explores the views about the nature and extent of police organizational and operational changes in 15 countries as diverse as Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The first part of the book contains chapters focusing on the changes in the broader social environment and contextualizes the COVID-19-related police organizational and operational changes. The second part of the book incorporates chapters studying the contours of police operational and organizational changes across several different countries. The third part of the book includes chapters analyzing the police enforcement of the government COVID-19 rules and regulations, as well as police officers’ adherence to these same rules and regulations. The fourth part of the book contains chapters examining police officer and citizen views about the potential consequences of these organizational and operational changes on the police officers and the police–community partnerships. |
