| Summary: | Children are the most vulnerable group in society because of their emotional and physical positions. They are, therefore, more prone to become the target of child rape. This study aims to assess the profile of child rape victims and offenders in Bangladesh. This study is descriptive, and data has been collected through content analysis from secondary sources. The study population includes all reported incidences from the years 2019 and 2020 that were published on Prothom Alo and Bdnews24.com. Both quantitative and qualitative frameworks are the foundation of the study. According to the study's findings, children of all ages, genders, and socio-economic backgrounds are at risk, and those from rural and low-income households are most vulnerable. Girls, especially adolescents, are more likely to be victimized nowadays, including the experiences of gang rape. Children are not protected anywhere, not even in their homes or schools, and most of the time, they are harmed by well-known people and close relatives. Most child rape perpetrators fit the description of the opportunist type in terms of their psychology. Sexual, preferential, sadistic, and aggressive rapists are also found in Bangladesh. These criminals forcefully raped children by displaying weapons, threatening them, or luring them with delightful items to quell their sexual impulses. The study also identified that a lengthy judicial process and low conviction rate of the rapist could motivate the offenders and discourage victims and their families. Consequently, child rape prevalence increased in Bangladesh. |
