Sumario:Funders play a critical role in supporting research that advances scientific knowledge on gangs and the delinquent and criminal behaviors of those involved in gangs. Gang research funding and the knowledge it produces are essential to the development of effective programs, practices, and policies to reduce gang activity and promote public safety. This chapter examines gang research and evaluation funding by the US Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs (OJP). With consideration of the needs and priorities of practitioners, researchers, and other stakeholders, the OJP has mobilized a range of funding strategies to produce groundbreaking and seminal research findings over more than three decades, which have transformed our understanding of gangs and how to respond to them.
