Zusammenfassung:This collection tabulates the number of registered voters who were eligible to cast ballots in biennial national elections in the United States between 1968 and 1988. Its purpose is to furnish additional research data on registration trends, the relationship between registration and voting, and the role and strength of political parties, and the degree of partisan competition. The unit of analysis is the county, and totals of registered voters are presented for all counties in 48 states (North Dakota does not require registration and Wisconsin does not report statewide voter registration figures). If available, county-level totals are also presented for registration by race, major or minor political party, or other similar category (e.g., declined to state, miscellaneous, other, etc.) provided by the reporting agency of the state.
