Das Phänomen löste nach dem Aus-bruch des syrischen Bürgerkriegs internationale Besorgnis aus. Zustände von Angst oder gar Panik können zu Misstrauen und Fehlentscheidungen mit weitreichenden Auswirkungen führen.
