Summary: | Sexual harassment of minors through ICT has been experiencing a constant increase in criminal statistics in Spain in recent years. The present study has compared the criminal history and recidivism of three groups of detainees for crimes of sexual harassment of minors through ICT, classified based on the perpetrator's intent: physical contact with the child, obtaining sexual material, and dual cases. The main objective is to draw conclusions about whether these groups are composed of individuals with similar criminal activity. The results show that those seeking sexual material have a higher criminal incidence in both sexual and non-sexual offenses. When considering the severity of these offenses, the sample of detainees seeking physical contact with the minor commits more crimes. Image seekers tend to commit more offenses related to the consumption of child sexual material, while contact seekers are more involved in sexual assaults against minors. Dual individuals exhibit high overall percentages of committing crimes. Sexual harassment of minors through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has emerged as an alarming issue in contemporary society. This phenomenon has been of increasing concern due to its prevalence and the devastating impact it has on victims and society at large. In Spain, there has been a steady increase in crime statistics related to sexual harassment of minors through ICT in recent years. This study focuses on comparing the criminal history and recidivism of offenders involved in offenses of sexual harassment of minors through ICT. For this purpose, three groups of detainees were identified according to the intentionality of the offender: those seeking physical contact with the minor, those seeking to obtain sexual material, and dual cases combining both intentions. |
