Summary:Criminal justice statistics that collect specific information on the victim are relatively recent, a good example in this regard is the Censo Nacional de Impartición de Justicia Estatal. This research studies the data from this census, although the focus is on the victims of rape. The results confirm that women, particularly girls and young women, are the main victims of this crime. In addition, the findings show gaps in the information that allow questioning its consistency and reliability. The conclusions, therefore, suggest that the over-representation of women in statistics is only a reflection of a much larger problem, but its dimensions are blurred and invisible due to the same inconsistencies in the census data.
Las estadísticas del sistema penal que recogen información específica de la víctima del delito son relativamente recientes, un ejemplo destacable en este sentido es el Censo Nacional de Impartición de Justicia Estatal. En esta investigación se estudian los datos de este censo, aunque la atención se centra en las víctimas del delito de violación simple. Los resultados confirman que las mujeres, de manera particular las niñas y las jóvenes, son quienes padecen de forma principal este ilícito. Además, los hallazgos muestran carencias en la información que permiten cuestionar su solidez y fiabilidad. Las conclusiones, por tanto, sugieren que la sobre representación femenina en las estadísticas tan solo constituye el reflejo de un problema mucho mayor, pero sus dimensiones se difuminan e invisibilizan dadas las mismas inconsistencias de los datos del censo.
