Sumario:Part of a special issue on resisting militarism and globalized punishment. The unnecessary detention of asylum seekers entering the U.S., in particular, since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S., is discussed. It is argued that this aspect of the war on terror is being used more to control immigration than to address crime, as the detention of asylum seekers is not an efficient way of dealing with terrorism.
