Description
Summary:Part of a special issue on social justice for workers in the global economy. The struggle of janitors in Vancouver, Canada, to resist permanent marginalization under the new British Columbia government's neoliberal agenda is discussed. The widespread abuse, exploitation, and insecurities to which cleaners are subjected through the industry's aggressive pursuit of economic advantage on the backs of workers in Vancouver's anti-labor context are revealed. A case study that describes the efforts of the Hospital Employees Union to fight back against the provincial government's legislative assaults on women, visible minorities, and immigrants is presented.
