Summary: | Part of a special issue on resistance to neoliberal globalization. The new gated communities for the working class that have emerged in areas of the Mexican Metropolitan Region are a result of a bad approach to housing policy. It is vital to highlight the need to strengthen municipalities so that they can implement alternative policies that will not divide up space but rather guide processes in terms of the public good. Furthermore, it is also essential that money from the Workers' Fund be directed toward social and urban benefit rather than freely used as financial resources for the benefit of large real estate developers and construction firms. |
