Sumario:Part of a special issue on resistance to neoliberal globalization. The writer discusses the work of private security firms, or rent-a-cops," in Germany. He draws on three case studies of everyday private policing in formerly public spaces, focusing on the work of these private police in social housing complexes and the “migration management” of asylum-seekers, as well as highlighting the protest and resistance activities of the respective “target groups.” The writer contends that the neoliberalization of policing should be viewed in the context of the rolling-back and even disappearance of state police, particularly in neglected areas.
