Sumario:Part of a special issue on Asian and Pacific Islander populations within the U.S. The writer examines the grassroots efforts of the third-generation Japanese-American activists who battled drug abuse among their community in Los Angeles. She discusses the underlying factors that drove this generation of Japanese-Americans to drug abuse. She comments on the activist groups Yellow Brotherhood, Asian Sisters, and others, noting in particular their philosophy of serving the whole community and self-help.
