Summary:This publication brings together six papers that were presented at different sessions on the subject of hate crime during the 2006 and 2007 Stockholm Criminology Symposiums. The sessions were organised in cooperation with the European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control, affiliated with the United Nations. The papers present an introduction to the situation in selected European countries with respect to recognition of and responses to different manifestations of ‘hate crime’; which can range from incitement to hatred on a web posting through to murder.
