AB Der Labeling-Ansatz stellte sich die Aufgabe, die Devianzsoziologie zu deobjektivieren. Das hatte er nicht sofort erreicht: Im Laufe seiner Rezeption wurden weitere „objektivistische Reste“ im Ansatz identifiziert, vor allem in verbleibender Ätiologie und verbleibender Normbindung. Dieser Beitrag zeichnet die Diskussion zum „objektivistischen Rest“ der Normbindung nach, um einen weiteren objektivistischen Rest zu identifizieren: den der „Befreiung“ von Stigmatisierung. Eine solche kann nur erfolgen, wenn eine objektive Identität hinter dem Label angenommen wird. Eine „Befreiung von der Befreiung“ kann dem Ansatz zudem Argumente gegen den Vorwurf der relativistischen Beliebigkeit, dem er wieder ausgesetzt war, liefern: Ohne den Aspekt der Befreiung stehen intentionale Zuschreibungen nicht gegen eine zuschreibungsfreie Welt und sind daher niemals „nur“ Zuschreibungen. Eine solche Neuformulierung des Ansatzes festigt Labels, ohne dass diese dadurch ihren Zuschreibungscharakter einbüßten.
AB The labelling approach undertook to “de-objectify” the sociology of deviance. It was not immediately successful: In the course of its reception, more and more “objective remnants” were identified, especially in the remainders of etiological thought and a rest attachment to the existing “norm”. This paper attempts to reconstruct the discussion around the attachment to the “norm” as an “objective remnant”, in order to identify yet another one: the liberation from stigmatization. This can only happen when it is accepted as a possibility that an objective identity can exist behind a label. A liberation from liberation can be seen as a start towards voicing the critical arguments against the charges of relativism which have always existed. Without the aspect of liberation, “intentional” qualities ascribed to a label do not have to stand against a world without labels and are therefore never “just” intentional ascribed qualities. A reformulation of the approach along these lines would strengthen the labels without them having to forfeit any of their ascribed character in the process.
