Description
Summary:The study examines time-trends for correlates of delinquency and crime in a cross-national perspective, and discusses societal consequences and policy implications. Through bibliometric analysis, cluster analysis (VOSviewer), co-citation, and co-word analysis, this paper analyses 437 Scopus-indexed publications (2000–2024). Poverty, educational deprivation and mental health were found as major contributing factors. The largest contributors to research are the U.S., Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Germany and Spain. The subjects are broad – family dynamics, drug abuse, urbanisation and migration, to new themes such as technology, surveillance and rehabilitation. Limitations: We are dependent on Scopus; in future we may use Web of Science or Google Scholar. Policy wise, the findings advocate for governance reforms that focus on education and mental health access. This is a pioneering paper that creates new knowledge and new research agendas.
