| Summary: | AI technologies are trending globally to achieve the UN initiated Sustainable Development Goals and examine capabilities and expectations in overall development. The study aimed to examine the impact of artificial intelligence technology on social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, with an overview of the relevant international laws and regulations that exist to monitor the AI technology. Adopting a qualitative research approach, this study used secondary data such as books, articles and research findings. The stud y theoretically synthesized and analyzed the information through a thematic content analysis. Legal and ethical issues of global nature related to AI were also examined. It was discussed whether the law keeps its pace of development with the rapidly changing nature of technological advancement, and whether international law had legal compatibility with the AI innovations. The results yielded the definite impact of artificial intelligence technology on social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The study also identified international laws and treaties that were signed to monitor AI technology. It is hoped that this study would provide useful insights to the policy makers and lawmakers to disseminate the message of controlling the AI technology for sustainable development and creation of an international law framework. |
