Description
Summary:In the current digital age, Indonesia is increasingly confronted with the growing threat of cybercrime, which presents significant challenges for national security and public safety. This situation has highlighted the critical responsibility of the Indonesian National Police (INP) in addressing such offences. The present study explores cybercrime incidents on social media (SM), with particular emphasis on the implementation of community policing as influenced by law enforcement practices within the INP. To achieve this objective, empirical legal research was employed, incorporating data gathered from both primary and secondary sources. The data were examined using content analysis techniques. Findings from the analysis indicate a marked rise in the occurrence of cybercrimes across the country. The legal framework governing these offences includes Law Number 19 of 2016, which specifically addresses cybercrime. Additionally, other relevant legislative instruments comprise Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE Law), Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, Law Number 36 of 1999 on Telecommunications, and Law Number 27 of 2014, which amends Law Number 19 of 2002 on Copyright. In response to this growing issue, the INP has undertaken initiatives to enhance public awareness through the principles of community policing. These initiatives are categorised into three key approaches: pre-emptive, preventive, and repressive measures. Nevertheless, the effective execution of community policing within the INP is shaped by a variety of internal and external influences. The study concludes by advocating for strengthened cooperation between the INP and other law enforcement bodies to ensure the successful application of community policing strategies aimed at mitigating cybercrime.
