| Summary: | Over the past twenty years Caribbean countries have continuously engaged in the development of legislation, policy, and programmes to address domestic violence amongst their populace. While there exists data and research on violence within households and between intimate partners, there is a need for an improved epistemological and theoretical understanding of these issues in the Caribbean context. The current chapter engages in a systematic review of past and present perspectives and understandings of domestic violence in the Caribbean region. It explores the framing and conceptualizations of such forms of violence within Caribbean discourse. Further, it investigates how this framing of domestic violence within the regional discourse impacts responses and interventions. |
