| 520 | |a While Restorative Justice (RJ) has become more acknowledged and used within the English and Welsh criminal justice system, little is known about its applications in probation settings. This article aims to contribute to the limited literature on the topic and provide an analysis of historical and contemporary perspectives about RJ in probation with reference to the Probation Service in England and Wales. The present methodology involves secondary research of older and more recent texts which have informed the perspectives in question and the discussion of implications. The authors find notable parallels between RJ and probation in terms of definition, desistance, and dialogue which – although not without their limitations – have not historically been applied by the Service in any systematic way. | ||
