RT Article T1 Community corrections in Australia JF The Routledge handbook on global community corrections SP 481 OP 501 A1 Evans, Phillipa A2 Pereira, Charlene A2 Gestel, Dominic van A2 Trotter, Chris LA English YR 2024 UL https://krimdok.uni-tuebingen.de/Record/1925778452 AB This chapter provides a brief historical and contemporary overview of probation in Australia. It discusses the terminology applied to community-based supervision and the adoption of the term community corrections, as well as the changing role of probation officers, or community corrections officers, as they are now commonly known in Australia. It outlines the various community corrections dispositions in different states. While there are differences in some of the sentencing and supervisory policy and practices of community-based corrections across states, the legislation and organizational structures of community correctional organizations are quite similar across jurisdictions in Australia. The chapter uses the largest state New South Wales (NSW) as a case example to provide more detail on the specific workings of community corrections in Australia. The chapter then takes a similar approach to discussing youth justice in the various states and in NSW. The goal of this chapter is to provide a succinct and contemporary overview of community corrections in Australia. NO Literaturverzeichnis: Seite 499-501 SN 9781032294933
