RT Article T1 Policing and investigating criminal activities by gangs using e-bikes, e-scooters and e-motorcycles in the UK JF Critical issues and global perspectives ; volume 1: Special topics in policing SP 161 OP 184 A1 Smith, Robert A2 Coxhead, John LA English YR 2024 UL https://krimdok.uni-tuebingen.de/Record/1925305023 AB This chapter will thoroughly explore a contemporary road traffic and criminal phenomenon, the use of electronic bikes, or ‘e-bikes,’ of various capacities by urban youths and organised crime groups in the UK. While there is little prior related research, this work will commence with a concise overview and define key terms. The main challenges in responding to the criminal use of the ubiquitous e-bikes include documenting some of the criminal, antisocial and road traffic issues involved. Four case studies will be introduced and examined to provide practical perspective. The police have developed traffic enforcement and community policing measures which are effectively laid out in an action plan. Finally, a typology of criminal and anti-social offenders has been proposed that permit discussion and concluding recommendations.
