AB Der lagebedingte Erstickungstod (LET) tritt meist als Folge einer polizeilichen Fixierungsmaßnahme auf. Die medizinischen Zusammenhänge sind nur teilweise bekannt und die auslösenden Ursachen werden nicht immer erkannt. Es ist eine umfassende und transparente Auswertung und Aufarbeitung solcher Vorfälle notwendig, auch weil der Tod eines nahen Angehörigen für die Hinterbliebenen eine extreme Belastung bedeutet und der Einsatz auch für die handelnden Polizeibeamt*innen psychische Folgen haben kann. Der LET hat zuletzt auch in Deutschland für Diskussionen gesorgt, er ist aber national wie international seit den 1990er Jahren bekannt. Der Beitrag stellt dar, wie er im Polizeialltag erkannt und verhindert werden kann und welche Ausbildungs- und Fortbildungsmaßnahmen notwendig sind.
AB Positional Asphyxia Syndrome (PAS) usually occurs as a result of a police restraint measure. The medical contexts are only partially known and the triggering causes are not always recognized. A comprehensive and transparent evaluation and processing of such incidents is necessary, because the death of a close relative is extremely stressful for the bereaved and the operation can also have psychological consequences for the police officers involved. PAS has also recently caused discussion in Germany, but it has been known nationally and internationally since the 1990s.The article shows how it can be recognized and prevented in everyday police work and what training and further training measures are necessary.
