With key informant interviews and surveys, this study finds that government officials and the community played an important role in the growth of restorative justice (RJ) in Saskatchewan. The data are analyzed with NVivo 10 software. This study finds multiple factors contributing to the growth and development of restorative justice in Saskatchewan. Dissatisfaction with the current criminal justice system, increased awareness of restorative justice, and faith-based organizations such as the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), Indigenous-led justice organizations and funding support from both provincial and federal governments facilitated the growth of RJ in SK. This study captures a major discussion of government in restorative justice. This study ends with sharing some limitations and areas for future research.
