520 |a This longitudinal survey of middle school students was conducted as part of the evaluation of Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships, a national program to prevent teen dating violence and abuse by teaching 11- to- 14-year-olds about healthy relationships. Start Strong was was an initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in collaboration with the Blue Shield of California Foundation and Futures Without Violence. Eight schools in three of the Start Strong sites participated in the evaluation, four implementing Start Strong and four which did not have any teen dating violence prevention programs. Topics covered by the four waves of the survey, which were conducted in fall 2010, spring 2011, fall 2011 and spring 2012, include self-confidence, self-reported school grades, coping with anger and disagreements, gender roles in relationships, dating violence, bullying, communication with parents and teachers, alcohol use, dating and relationship history, social media use, age of dating partners, school and community resources for dating violence victims, and family background.
