RT Article T1 Women's Experiences Accessing Mental Health Care in Australia After Sexual Violence in Adulthood JF Violence against women VO 30 IS 12/13 SP 3140 OP 3162 A1 Isaac, Sandra A1 McLindon, Elizabeth A1 Hegarty, Kelsey A1 Tarzia, Laura A2 McLindon, Elizabeth A2 Hegarty, Kelsey A2 Tarzia, Laura LA English YR 2024 UL https://krimdok.uni-tuebingen.de/Record/1902470354 AB In Australia, at least one in every five women has experienced sexual violence since age 15. Research consistently links sexual violence with poor mental health, persisting long after the crisis period. Trauma-informed mental health support is therefore critical. This article draws on interviews with 29 women who had experienced sexual violence to understand their experiences accessing mental health services in Australia. Our findings suggest that, constrained by a biomedical model of care, mental health practitioners’ understanding of trauma generally, and sexual violence particularly, may be lacking. Further, women struggle to navigate a “maze” of services. K1 Australia K1 trauma-informed care K1 Women K1 Mental Health K1 Sexual Violence DO 10.1177/10778012231176198
