A systematic review identified 44 studies, conducted across 27 countries from 1996 to 2022, for inclusion in the analysis. Three core themes emerged characterizing the comprehensive experiences of women enduring IPV: 1) experiencing violence as a form of ownership, 2) feeling powerless in a society that condones violence, and 3) suffering oppression in a male-dominated society. The findings predominantly reflect a feminist perspective, suggesting that IPV stems from patriarchal structures that perpetuate male dominance, power, and control over women.
