Auch Michael Rothberg verteidigt sich gegen Vorwürfe, er würde dem Holocaust die historische Singularität aberkennen, und verweist darauf, dass er nur die Verhandlung dieser historischen Singularität im Diskurs kritisiere. Zur Unterscheidung dieser beiden Aspekte werde ich von erinnerungspolitischer Singularität und von historischer Singularität sprechen. Ziel des Beitrags ist eine detaillierte Auseinandersetzung mit Rothbergs Multidirektionaler Erinnerung und seinen Singularitätsbegriffen. Diesbezüglich werden Ungenauigkeiten und Fehlschlüsse in Rothbergs Werk deutlich. Diese Ungenauigkeiten fordern seinen Rückzug auf die alleinige Kritik einer erinnerungspolitischen Singularität heraus und geben Hinweise auf Rothbergs Verständnis einer historischen Singularität, die er beteuert. Übergeordnetes Ziel ist es aufzuzeigen, dass die unpräzise Begriffsverwendung in der Debatte Erkenntnis erschwert, anstatt zu befördern. 
520 |a In the so-called „Historikerstreit 2.0“, a dehistoricizing use of the paradigm of uniqueness within the memory politics is repeatedly criticized – mostly by representatives of postcolonial studies. Michael Rothberg also defends himself against accusations that he would deny the uniqueness of the Holocaust and points out that he only criticizes the negotiation of this historical singularity in discourse. To distinguish between these two aspects, I will speak of memory-political (erinnerungspolitische) uniqueness and historical uniqueness (historische). The aim of this paper is a detailed discussion of Rothberg’s Multidirectional Memory and his notions of uniqueness. In this regard, inaccuracies and fallacies in Rothberg’s work become apparent. These inaccuracies challenge his retreat to the sole critique of a singularity in memory politics and provide clues to Rothberg’s understanding of a historical uniqueness that he asserts. The overarching goal is to demonstrate that the imprecise use of terms in the debate impedes, rather than advances, understanding.
