Our hypothesis in starting our research 1 was that the introduction of anxiety into the debate would assist our understanding of this paradox; we assumed that people's fear of crime would not be a direct response to risk of victimisation but would be mediated by anxiety and defences against it. In the event, our hypothesis proved fruitful. |
