Der Beitrag geht der Frage nach, inwieweit die Demonstrationen der letzten Jahre als „Aufstand der einfachen Leute“ verstanden werden können, die sich in politischen Prozessen nicht repräsentiert fühlen. Im Fokus der vorliegenden Studie stehen daher Teilnehmer:innen an Demonstrationen in den letzten Jahren in Sachsen als Hotspot solcher Proteste. Datengrundlage sind die Erhebungen des Sachsenmonitors von 2016–2021/22. Es zeigen sich klare sozialstrukturelle Unterschiede und ein starker Einfluss der politischen Entfremdung bei Demonstrierenden, die dem Rechtspopulismus zugeneigt sind. | ||
| 520 | |a This article examines the extent to which the protest movements of recent years are changing the socio-structural composition of political participation. Previous empirical research shows that more highly educated middle-class individuals participate disproportionately in political processes. However, some authors suggest that right-wing populist movements may be closing this „participation gap“ in political participation? This article explores the question to what extent the demonstrations of recent years can be understood as an „uprising of ordinary people“ who feel unrepresented in political processes. The focus of this study is therefore on participants in demonstrations in recent years in Saxony as a hotspot of such protests. The data are based on the surveys of the Sachsenmonitor from 2016–2021/22.
