Research consulted don´t determine a specific profile of the abusive man. People can be sexist, unstable, addicted to alcohol or drugs or having a personality disorder, but no conclusive data. There are abusers are often affected by many cognitive biases related to mistaken beliefs about sex roles and distorted ideas about the legitimization of violence to solve problems. This paper is a literature review on the conceptualization of the term gender violence with an emphasis on multi-causal models and the construction of masculinity as explanatory variables of the origin and maintenance of abuse.Cuando se habla de violencia de género casi siempre se habla de mujeres, pocas veces se lanzan cuestiones sobre los hombres que ejercen esa violencia y sobre las causas y motivaciones que originan y mantienen su comportamiento. Las investigaciones consultadas no determinan un perfil concreto del hombre maltratador. Pueden ser personas machistas, inestables, adictos al alcohol o drogas o tener algún trastorno de personalidad, pero no existen datos concluyentes. En lo que sí hay acuerdo es en que los maltratadores suelen estar afectados por numerosos sesgos cognitivos relacionados con creencias equivocadas sobre los roles sexuales y con ideas distorsionadas sobre la legitimización de la violencia como forma de resolver los problemas. Este trabajo realiza una revisión bibliográfica sobre la conceptualización del término de violencia de género con una especial atención a los modelos multicausales y la construcción de la masculinidad como variables explicativas del origen y mantenimiento del maltrato | ||
