La técnica se aplica normalmente en casos seriales, aunque también se puede utilizar en casos en los que sólo se haya observado un único delito, siempre que éste esté relacionado con varias ubicaciones en las que basar el perfil. Este trabajo expone la base conceptual y teórica del perfil geográfico, los métodos y procedimientos a seguir, y la utilidad práctica de la técnica. Para ilustrar los conceptos expuestos, se utiliza el caso de José Antonio Rodríguez Vega ("El Mataviejas"), el cual asesinó a 16 ancianas en Santander entre 1987 y 1988. El artículo concluye con una discusión sobre alguno de los factores a tener en cuenta al utilizar el perfil geográfico y las limitaciones de esta técnica. | ||
