These kinds of assaults and the act of rape cause deep psychological and emotional trauma, as well as serious injuries. Throughout history, there are different theoretical approaches trying to explain the roots of crime, and also the role of victims at crime. Mostly in the past, but even today, we can see number of proofs of secondary victimization of assaulted women. Women were guilty for being attacked and stigmatized by society, science, and even law. Secondary victimization not only pushes victim into deeper psychological trauma effects but also in some way encourages possible offenders to “show” their supremacy, given by gender and tradition, by violence, and sexual attacks. In this chapter, different forms of secondary victimization will be explained and analyzed through historical and societal perspective, as well as through different theoretical and research approaches.
