Description
Summary:Abuse is any unwelcomed comment, gesture, or/and action imposed on an individual that threatens other persons’ sense of self or identity, or individuality. Sexual abuse gained more attention than other forms of abuse because hitting, mocking, or ignoring physical or emotional needs is comparable and matches with the normative behavior. The chapter throws light on theoretical and etiological frameworks contributing to being a victim or a perpetrator. Though most sexual abuse go unnoticed as well as unreported unless there is sexual harassment or advanced form of sexual abuse, the assessment in such cases of abuse requires a holistic approach catering to psychological, medical, and forensic investigations providing a basis for further legal proceedings. However, the significance is of primary intervention where education and awareness programs can prevent the occurrences of abuse and also make affected individuals seek out secondary intervention services. The secondary interventions facilitate conflict and trauma resolution and prevent recidivism. Lastly, psychosocial reintegration and rehabilitation require multi as well as interdisciplinary agencies to come together to reduce stigma and enhance acceptance.
