Summary:Criminal profiling techniques are immersed in a state of review in terms of their methodologies and theoretical assumptions. Its empirical contrast, its expert value and its validity as police investigation tool are debated. The pillars on which their principles largely rest, such as the homology thesis, the ideas of consistency and behavioral differentiation, face conflicting evidence. For this reason, two major concerns have arisen regarding the criminal profiling technique: its usefulness and its methodological rigor. To resolve this situation, is necessary an in-depth review of their proposals and the use of those that prioritize methodological rigor with an objective of verifiable utility without the need to accept psycho-criminological theories that have not been sufficiently contrasted. One of these proposals is the VERA Method for the elaboration of psychological profiles of unknown aggressors, developed with a vocation of utility without renouncing the contributions of the scientific method.
Las técnicas de perfilación criminal se encuentran inmersas en un estado de revisión en cuanto a sus metodologías y presupuestos teóricos. Se debate su contrastación empírica, su valor pericial y su validez como herramienta de investigación policial. Los pilares sobre los que descansan en gran medida sus presupuestos, como son la tesis de la homología, las ideas de la consistencia y de la diferenciación comportamental se enfrentan a evidencias en contra. Por ello, han surgido dos grandes preocupaciones en torno a la técnica de la perfilación criminal: su utilidad y su rigor metodológico. Para resolver esta coyuntura, es necesaria una revisión en profundidad de sus propuestas y el empleo de aquellas que primen el rigor metodológico con un objetivo de utilidadcomprobable sin necesidad de adscribirse a teorías psicocriminológicas que no hayan sido suficientemente contrastadas. Una de estas propuestas es la del Método VERAde elaboración de perfiles psicológicos de agresores desconocidos, desarrollada con vocación de utilidad sin renunciar al método científico.
