For the most part, these studies have focused on large urban areas with little, or no, attention being given to the less populated areas of the country. Therefore, much of the current body of knowledge on criminal homicides is based upon the findings of these urban areas. This study focuses upon homicides is a semi-rural area of Alabama in the belief that the differences in cultures, lifestyles, and population densities found in small cities and rural areas will produce homicide characteristics different from those in urban areas.
