| Zusammenfassung: | Part of a special issue on resisting militarism and globalized punishment. The contributing articles are concerned with the widening net of imprisonment, immigration control, and drug and crime enforcement, as well as the role of an ever more authoritarian national security state in the 21st century's globalized economy. Focusing mainly on developments in the U.S. and the U.K., they consider how the events of September 11, 2001, helped intensify a long-term pattern of restricting civil, political, and human rights. An overview is provided of the papers, which are organized into three sections: the prison-industrial complex; state policy post September 11; and policing black and Latino communities.
