Zusammenfassung:Part of a special section on globalization and environmental harm. The methodology of expansion of several private toxic or hazardous waste-carting companies as they became the waste industry's most important companies in the northeast U.S. is explained, and compared to the methods employed by organized criminals. It is argued that the variance between criminal mob cartels and giant waste disposal companies in relation to issues such as antitrust and pollution is not very large.
