Description
Summary:Part of a special section on globalization and environmental harm. It is argued that challenging militarism should be central to any critique of toxic capitalism, and that there is probably no more obvious example of such a challenge than the grass-roots struggle to oblige the U.S. Navy to stop bombing and begin cleaning up Vieques, Puerto Rico. An introduction is provided to the land, people, and the struggle on Vieques and this highlights militarism's key role in toxic capitalism is presented. Guidelines to help replace such destructive practices with life-affirming alternatives are offered.
