Description
Summary:Part of a special issue on new pedagogies for social change. The writer describes a pedagogy that she has developed, which uses poetry to access the diverse cultural and linguistic skills, knowledge, and experience. She proposes that this method can enhance the literary practices of multilingual students and also provides an effective method for enhancing second-language acquisition. She contends that this form of assets-based education provides a guide for teachers in terms of helping underprepared students, particularly those from non-English speaking backgrounds, to recognize their own cultural value, and heightens the impact of an academically and culturally diverse classroom.
