Zusammenfassung:Part of a special issue on applied research and social justice. The role that hermeneutics can play in helping to identify the needs of indigenous communities is discussed. The focus is placed on what is referred to as “Hawaiian Hermeneutics,” the art and science of interpretation and understanding of Hawaiian consciousness, and the negotiation of the three points—body, mind, and spirit; or gross, subtle, and causal—of the triangulation of meaning.
