Summary: | Part of a special section on the intersection of ideologies of violence. An examination of the living legacy of women of color as bridge builders in the U.S. is presented. An account of the Incite! Women of Color Against Violence movement, which emerged from the Color of Violence conference held at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in spring 2000, is provided. It is noted that the movement teamed up with the Critical Resistance organization, which had been founded in 1998 at the Critical Resistance: Beyond the Prison-Industrial Complex conference held in Berkeley, and that the two movements wrote a joint Critical Resistance-Incite! statement. Details of how the joint statement came to be written are provided. |
