Zusammenfassung:Part of a special issue on social justice for workers in the global economy. A case study of Hacienda, a Mexican transnational tortilla corporation with production facilities on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, is presented. The roles played by U.S. and Mexican state policies, particularly those that are pro-globalization and favor transnational corporations, in facilitating employers' despotic practices are examined. The production and reproduction of race and gender on the shop floor of the two operations through an immigration regime is demonstrated. Finally, the prospects for resisting the dynamics of labor control through cross-border solidarity are considered.
