The roles played by U.S. and Mexican state policies, particularly those that are pro-globalization and favor transnational corporations, in facilitating employers' despotic practices are examined. The production and reproduction of race and gender on the shop floor of the two operations through an immigration regime is demonstrated. Finally, the prospects for resisting the dynamics of labor control through cross-border solidarity are considered.
