RT Article T1 Dying Planet, Deadly People: “Race”-Sex Anxieties and Alternative Globalizations JF Social justice VO 32 IS 4 SP 69 OP 86 A1 Gosine, Andil 1973- LA English YR 2005 UL https://krimdok.uni-tuebingen.de/Record/1747157775 AB Part of a special issue on race, racism, and empire in the Canadian context. The writer explores the idea of “race” in contemporary, global environmentalism. As the Earth as an entity does not conform to ideas of political borders or other socially-constructed divisions, environmentalists naturally view the global community as their natural constituency. However, their attempts to create a “common response” have been built on a colonialist consciousness that promotes a cultural privileging of whiteness. Indeed, the dominant trends in environmentalism are built on an anxiety about the sexualities of non-white peoples, which erodes the rights of those people and denies the fullness of their humanity while simultaneously affirming the authority of whites to colonize and govern the world.
