Zusammenfassung:This article discusses the relationship between LGBT rights and immigrant rights in U.S. campaigns for same-sex immigration reform. While 19 nations allow LGBT citizens to sponsor their partners for the purposes of immigration, the U.S. is not one of them, and this paper attests that this is due to the nation’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The author questions the possibilities and limitations of adopting a human rights framework to advocate for same-sex immigration rights and examines the potential for same-sex immigration reform to intersect with the cultural and economic policies of neoliberalism.
