| Sumario: | The article discusses the racial politics within Germany that underlie hate crimes against gay people that are allegedly predicated upon homophobia. Legislation pertaining to hate crimes and the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people (LGBT) within the U.S. is discussed and then compared with similar measures in Germany. The author attests that there is a moral panic within the latter nation pertaining to homophobic migrants who stem from foreign countries. The paper specifically focuses upon migrants of Arab descent and urges that they are disproportionately targeted by the German criminal justice system. The author uses a personal account of attending a local hate crime discussion to frame these topics. |
