Sumario:The article presents survey data related to public perceptions of democracy in Venezuela and assessed the regime of country's President Hugo Chavez with regard to six conceptions of democracy. Topics discussed include failure of liberal democracy in Venezuela which was based on rule of law, civil liberties and minority rights, incorporation of marginalized people into higher education with the educational missions of the Chavez era, and the egalitarian conception of democracy.
